One-on-one time… it is not just for the adults! Think back to your childhood and how special it felt to run to the grocery store with a parent, just the two of you. Something as simple as grabbing a gallon of milk made you feel so important. Why limit it to grocery store runs? As often as possible, swap out children and go on a date! Here are some great ideas for Date Night: Kid Style!
Go bowling! There’s nothing like some friendly competition to get a date night going. Keep track of scores and see who wins after a series of dates.
Have a progressive meal. With this date, you start at one place for appetizers, go to another for the main entree and finish with dessert somewhere else. A great variation is to pick a theme. For example: “Dinner Around the World.” Start at a Mediterranean restaurant for some appetizers (maybe hummus?); move on to a delicious Italian main course, and finish up with some sopapillas at your favorite Mexican place.
Go to the movies. This is always a perfect place for a date! Let the little one pick the movie, pick the snacks and pick the seats (This means you will likely end up on the front row, but they will love it!). Another fun spin on this one is to give them the money ahead of time and let them take you out, meaning they pay for everything!
Educational can be fun! A museum might not be what we consider a fun date, but one-on-one time at a children’s museum or an art museum can be fun. Let your date lead the way and explore exhibits that they want to see. Take your time and enjoy each one as long as they want. So often when we visit places like this as a family, we do not get to spend time doing what we want because we have a whole family that wants to see different things!
